<3 Swim Class
Laughing while swimming is not easy but hilarious. In swim class last night we were learning to keep our stomach sucked in and tight and tailbone down and rotate during each stroke. Who knew you rotate on each stroke and not just when you breathe. Well I learned very quickly when we stuck a kick board between our legs and did a “pulling drill” I WIISHHHHH I could have watched myself do this because it felt like I was a 3 year old trying to swim. I was flopping around and when I’d rotate to swim I’d flip onto my back then continue flipping in a full circle. Then would start cracking up. It was all amusing to me and probably no one else. Then I realized OH we are supposed to rotate and to make myself rotate maybe I’ll have to be a little more aggressive. Success. Then with the whole chin tucked I noticed that my face was never emerging from the water so I could never take a breath which I also found hilarious. Awesome Coach John watched and gave me the best correction ever. Right as I’m pulling my arm on the breath stroke turn my head to breathe immediately. Face out of water every time! woohoo! It’s realllly fun getting better and I can’t wait to see my swimming skills by the end of this whole thing! Hopefully I use these skills at the DC tri and don’t rock a backstroke the whole time. And there is a dude in our class with muscles I’ve never seen before.
This morning I wanted to run 3 miles and accidentally ran 3.7. oops! It’s too early to calculate a halfway point. I turned around at like 1.8 instead of 1.5 miles. Anyway still got to work on time and it was fun running in my winter gear. My garmin pace is still on crack but it makes me feel great when it says I’m running a 7:30 mile! (so false) It’s also cool tracking mileage (helps with timing in the am) and I’m pretty sure my 185 steady heart rate means I’m having a heart attack. It’s above zone 5 which isn’t the best for “improving fitness” says some article I read.
I also think my Runners World Smart Coach Half Marathon training plan is on crack. 8 miles being the most I run and 2/3 miles at 11min pace during the week just does not seem right. Onto the next plan.
Love morning workouts because tonight I can do laundry and watch the Bachelor. Tomorrow I will spin. Thursday I will run and yoga it up, Friday I will swim, Saturday I will run and don’t worrrrry because Sunday I will RESSTTTTT.
